How Much CBD to Add to Vape Juice: Strength and Mixing Guide

How strong should your CBD vape juice be? Here’s how CBD strength is measured, how to calculate the strength of your own mix, and how to stay within UK guidance.

The short version

How much CBD should you add to vape juice?

Work out concentration as total CBD ÷ volume. For example, a 1000mg CBD shot mixed into 50ml of e-liquid gives about 17mg/ml. Always follow the manufacturer’s mixing ratio.

Lower concentrations are easier to manage. Start with a few puffs and keep your total within the FSA’s 10mg-a-day guidance. Never add CBD oil drops to vape juice.

How much CBD to add to vape juice

This guide to how much CBD to add to vape juice covers what you need to know, using UK guidance and the latest evidence. If you’re mixing a CBD additive (a “shot”) into e-liquid, or comparing CBD vape juice strengths, the maths can be confusing. This guide explains how CBD strength is measured, how to work out the strength of your own mix, and how to keep your daily CBD within UK guidance.

Only use products made for vaping

Never add CBD oil drops (tinctures) to vape juice — the carrier oils aren’t safe to inhale. Use a CBD additive or e-liquid with a PG/VG base. Read can CBD oil be added to vape juice?

How CBD strength is measured

Labels usually show the total CBD in the bottle (for example, 3000mg). What matters for comparing products is the concentration — mg of CBD per ml of liquid:

Concentration (mg/ml) = total CBD (mg) ÷ volume (ml)

How to work out the strength of your own mix

When you add a CBD shot to e-liquid, the CBD is spread through the total volume:

Final strength (mg/ml) = CBD in the shot (mg) ÷ (shot volume + e-liquid volume)

Example: a 1000mg, 10ml CBD shot added to 50ml of e-liquid gives 1000 ÷ 60 = about 17mg/ml.

Example: the same shot added to 90ml of e-liquid gives 1000 ÷ 100 = 10mg/ml.

Always follow the manufacturer’s recommended ratio. Mix in a clean bottle at room temperature, shake well, and label it with the total CBD, volume and date.

Which strength should you choose?

  • Lower concentrations are easier to manage, especially if you vape often — each puff contains less CBD.
  • Higher concentrations mean more CBD per puff, so it’s easier to go over the daily guidance without noticing.

The Food Standards Agency advises healthy adults to take no more than 10mg of CBD a day from all products. How much liquid you vaporise per puff varies a lot between devices and how you draw, so start with a few puffs, wait 10 minutes, and keep track. Our CBD dosage calculator can help you estimate CBD per puff.

Tips for consistent results

  • Shake your liquid before each use — CBD can settle.
  • Use the same device and settings so each puff is similar.
  • Store bottles somewhere cool and dark, away from children and pets.
  • Choose independently lab-tested products so the label strength is accurate.

Prefer not to mix at all? Ready-made CBD vape juice or a pre-filled CBD vape is simpler.
