How to Choose the Best CBD Disposable Vape for You

How to Choose the Best CBD Disposable Vape for You
Strength per puff, extract type, puff count, flavour, device type and cost per mg: six factors that decide which CBD vape pen suits you best.
The short version
Don’t judge a pen by its total mg alone. Divide the CBD by the puff count to get the strength per puff, which tells you how much you take each time.
Beginners usually do best with a pre-filled rechargeable pen and a low strength per puff. Regular users save money and waste with a pod system or refillable pen.

There are dozens of CBD vape pens on the UK market, and most product pages list the same things: a big mg number, a puff count and a flavour. Choosing well means knowing which of those numbers actually matters for you. This guide covers the six factors that make the difference. For the legal and safety checks every product should pass before you buy, see our checklist of 5 things to check before buying a CBD vape.
1. Strength per puff, not just total mg
A pen labelled “1000mg” tells you how much CBD is in the whole device, not how much you get from each puff. To compare pens, divide the total CBD by the approximate puff count:
| Total CBD | Approx. puffs | CBD per puff | Puffs to reach 10mg |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1000mg | 1,500 | ~0.67mg | ~15 |
| 1000mg | 1,000 | 1mg | 10 |
| 600mg | 600 | 1mg | 10 |
| 300mg | 600 | 0.5mg | 20 |
These figures are estimates, since puff size varies, but they show why two “1000mg” pens can feel very different. The Food Standards Agency advises healthy adults to have no more than 10mg of CBD a day across all products. Use the calculator to check any pen:

2. Extract type
- CBD isolate: pure CBD with no other cannabinoids. It’s the cleanest option if you want to avoid THC entirely.
- Distillate / broad-spectrum: CBD with some other hemp compounds such as minor cannabinoids and terpenes, which give a more “hempy” character.
- Full-spectrum: contains a wider range of hemp compounds, including traces of THC. In the UK the whole product must still contain no more than 1mg of THC.
If you’re drug tested at work or compete in sport, isolate is the safest choice. Read does CBD show up on drug tests? for the details.
3. Device type
| Device | Pros | Cons | Example |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pre-filled rechargeable pen | Nothing to set up, ready to use | Higher cost per mg, whole unit replaced when empty | Haze Legend, Haze Platinum |
| Pod system | Simple, lower waste, cheaper refills | Upfront kit cost | Haze Platinum Pro |
| Refillable pen or tank | Lowest cost per mg, full control over strength and flavour | Needs filling and coil changes | CBD vape juice |
Since the single-use vape ban on 1 June 2025, every “disposable” CBD vape sold in the UK should be rechargeable. If a pen has no charging port, don’t buy it.
4. Puff count and how often you vape
A higher puff count means the pen lasts longer, but only if the CBD is spread across those puffs. Think about how you’ll use it:
- Occasional use (a few puffs a day): a pre-filled pen will last weeks. Check the best-before date.
- Daily use: a pod system or refillable pen will usually work out cheaper and create less waste.
5. Flavour and ingredients
Flavour is personal: fruit, soda, berry and ice flavours are the most popular, and terpene-led “strain” profiles suit people who like a hemp taste. Whatever you choose, the liquid should use PG and VG as carriers. Avoid any vape that contains oils (MCT, coconut or hemp seed oil) or vitamin E acetate, which aren’t safe to inhale.
6. Cost per mg
Compare value by dividing the price by the total mg of CBD. Pre-filled pens are the most convenient but cost more per mg, while e-liquids for refillable devices cost the least. Be suspicious of prices far below the market, because real CBD content often doesn’t match the label on very cheap products.

Travelling with a CBD vape
If you fly, vapes must go in your hand luggage, not your hold bag, because of their lithium batteries, and e-liquids count towards your liquids allowance. Check your airline’s rules and the law at your destination, because CBD is restricted or illegal in some countries.
Safety first
CBD vapes are for adults aged 18 and over. CBD can cause drowsiness and interact with some medicines, so talk to your GP or pharmacist first if you take medication, are pregnant or breastfeeding, or have a lung or heart condition. Never vape CBD oil drops. When you’re ready, read how to use a CBD disposable vape or compare our top 5 CBD vapes.

Key takeaways
- Compare pens by CBD per puff (total mg ÷ puff count), not total mg alone.
- Choose CBD isolate if you’re drug tested or compete in sport.
- Pre-filled pens are easiest, pods and refillables cost less per mg and create less waste.
- Every UK “disposable” CBD vape must be rechargeable since June 2025.
- Keep your total CBD within the FSA’s 10mg-a-day guidance for healthy adults.
CBD is a food supplement, not a medicine. Nothing in this article is medical advice. CBD products are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease. The Food Standards Agency advises healthy adults to take no more than 10mg of CBD a day. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, taking medication or have a medical condition, speak to a healthcare professional before using CBD.
Choosing a CBD disposable vape: FAQs
Look at CBD per puff rather than total mg. A pen giving around 0.5–1mg per puff makes it easy to start low and stay within the FSA’s 10mg-a-day guidance.
Not necessarily. A higher total mg only means more CBD in the device. If it’s spread over more puffs, the strength per puff can be the same as, or lower than, a smaller pen.
Yes. Vapes are electrical waste because of their lithium batteries. Take them back to a shop that sells vapes or to a household waste recycling centre, and never put them in your household bin.
Vapes must go in hand luggage, not in the hold, and e-liquids count towards your liquids allowance. Check your airline’s rules and the CBD laws at your destination before you travel.
There’s limited long-term research on vaping CBD. The FSA advises healthy adults to have no more than 10mg of CBD a day, and vaping itself carries lung risks, so non-smokers shouldn’t take up vaping.
