How to Use a CBD Disposable Vape: 8 Simple Steps for Beginners

How to Use a CBD Disposable Vape: 8 Simple Steps for Beginners
From unboxing and your first puff to charging, storage, strength and recycling, here is how to get started with a CBD vape pen safely in the UK.
The short version
Take a slow 2–3 second puff, wait 10–15 minutes, and only then decide whether you want more. Keep a rough count of your puffs so you stay within the FSA’s 10mg-a-day guidance.
Since June 2025, “disposable” CBD pens sold in the UK must be rechargeable. Charge them with the right cable, store them upright at room temperature, and recycle them as electrical waste. Never put them in the bin.

This guide to how to use CBD disposable vapes covers what you need to know, using UK guidance and the latest evidence. A CBD vape pen is the simplest way to start vaping CBD. There’s no tank to fill and no settings to adjust. It’s pre-filled, draw-activated and ready out of the box. Even so, a few habits make a big difference to how much CBD you take, how long the pen lasts and how safely you use it.
What is a CBD disposable vape?
It’s a small, pre-filled device containing a battery, a heating coil and a CBD e-liquid, usually CBD distillate or isolate in propylene glycol (PG) and vegetable glycerin (VG) with terpenes or flavourings. When you inhale, the coil heats the liquid into a vapour.
Good to know: fully single-use vapes have been banned from sale in the UK since 1 June 2025. Today’s “disposable-style” CBD pens, such as the Haze Legend, are rechargeable. The name has stuck, but you shouldn’t throw them away when the battery runs low.
| Type | How it works | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Disposable-style pen | Pre-filled and rechargeable, nothing to set up | Beginners and occasional use |
| Pod system | Rechargeable battery with refillable or replaceable pods | Regular users who want less waste |
| Refillable pen or tank | You fill it with a CBD vape juice of your choice | Experienced vapers who want to choose strength and flavour |
How to use a CBD disposable vape in 8 steps
- Check it’s genuine. Look for the total CBD in mg, a batch number, an ingredient list and an independent lab test. Our checklist of 5 things to check before buying a CBD vape covers what to look for.
- Unbox and remove any seals. Take off the silicone caps or stickers from the mouthpiece and the air inlet.
- Charge it if needed. Use a suitable USB-C cable and don’t leave it charging overnight or unattended.
- Take a slow, gentle puff. Most pens are draw-activated, so just inhale steadily for 2–3 seconds. Short, gentle draws give smoother vapour than hard pulls.
- Choose how you inhale. Mouth-to-lung (drawing into your mouth first, then inhaling) feels gentler for most beginners than inhaling straight into the lungs.
- Wait 10–15 minutes. Inhaled CBD acts faster than oils or gummies, so give it time before you take more.
- Keep track of your puffs. Check the CBD per puff (see the calculator below) so you know roughly how much you’ve had.
- Store and recycle it properly. Keep the pen upright at room temperature. When it’s finished, take it to a vape or electrical recycling point. Never put it in your household bin.
How much CBD should you vape?
The Food Standards Agency advises healthy adults to have no more than 10mg of CBD a day across all products. That’s a lot less than many older guides suggest. Be wary of any article recommending 30–70mg a day.
To work out the CBD per puff, divide the total CBD in the pen by its approximate puff count. Enter your pen’s details below:

Charging, care and storage
- Charge with the cable supplied or a standard USB-C cable, and unplug the pen once the indicator shows it’s full.
- Keep it upright to reduce the risk of leaks, and wipe the mouthpiece now and then with a dry tissue.
- Avoid heat and cold. Don’t leave it in a hot car or direct sunlight, as heat can degrade CBD and stress the battery.
- Store it safely out of reach of children and pets. The e-liquid and battery are both hazardous if swallowed or damaged.
- Stop using it if the pen gets hot, leaks or tastes burnt.
Is vaping CBD safe?
CBD is generally well tolerated, but the WHO and the FSA note that it can cause side effects such as drowsiness, dry mouth and changes in appetite, and it can interact with some medicines. Vaping also has its own risks. Inhaling anything puts your lungs to work, and there’s limited long-term research on vaping CBD.
Never vape CBD oil drops. Oral CBD oils use carriers such as MCT or hemp seed oil, which can cause serious lung inflammation when inhaled. Only use liquids made for vaping.
Talk to your GP or pharmacist before using CBD if you take prescribed medication, are pregnant or breastfeeding, or have a heart or lung condition. CBD vapes are for adults aged 18 and over.
How to dispose of a CBD vape
Vapes contain lithium batteries, which can cause fires in bin lorries and recycling centres. In the UK:
- shops that sell vapes are required to offer take-back for recycling, so drop yours off where you buy them;
- household waste recycling centres accept vapes as small electrical waste;
- don’t pierce the pen or try to remove the battery yourself.
Beginner tips
- Start with a lower-strength pen and short puffs.
- Stay hydrated, as PG and VG can leave your mouth dry.
- Don’t vape and drive if CBD makes you drowsy. See CBD and driving in the UK.
- If you’d rather not vape, CBD gummies or CBD oil give you a measured amount per serving.
